Vietnam attaches great importance to guaranteeing and promoting fundamental human rights and the people form the core of the driving force behind the process of national construction and development, affirmed foreign ministry spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga.

Nga made the affirmation on Nov. 27 in response to a press query about the European parliament’s approval of a resolution on human rights in Vietnam .

“We are very disappointed when the European parliament on Nov. 26 adopted the resolution which contains incorrect and biased information about the actual situation of human rights in Vietnam . The approval runs counter to benefits of the relations between Vietnam and the European Union and provokes indignation among Vietnamese people,” Nga said.

She stressed that Vietnam ’s achievements in protecting and promoting human rights have been acknowledged by the international community. They were clearly demonstrated through the national report on human rights delivered at the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in New York this September.
