Stranded tourists come home

HCM CITY — Saigontourist has brought back 33 Vietnamese tourists stranded in Bangkok by road through Cambodia while TransViet Tourist Company brought 20 others through Laos.

Last Friday Saigontourist evacuated them by bus from Bangkok to Cambodia and on to HCM City.

It said it footed the bill.

Nguyen Tien Dat of TransViet said his company too used buses to carry tourists through Laos to Vinh City in the central province of Nghe An the same day.

Viettravel has also evacuated 40 others from the Thai capital by road through Phnom Penh in Cambodia to HCM City.

A Viet Nam Airlines spokesman said an Airbus A321 was dispatched last Saturday to Utapao Airport, 144 kilometres southeast of Bangkok, to bring back an unspecified number of stranded tourists.

The carrier plans to continue to airlift more people using the same route. —
