– A senior Ho Chi Minh City official said traffic is currently one of the greatest challenges to the southern economic hub and stressed the need for urgent solutions to the problem.
Nguyen Trung Tin, vice chairman of the municipal People Committee, made the statement at a three-day workshop on transport development in developing countries’ cities, which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Nov. 12.
The city is in need for urgent solutions to improve its traffic infrastructure and address traffic congestions, Tin said.
Bernard Rivalta, president of French network SYTRAL, suggested the city introduce appropriate policies for the problem and pay attention to increasing public awareness of those policies.
Some 90 studies will be presented at the workshop, focusing on the harmonisation of public transport systems, traffic safety and environmentally-friendly transport development solutions, as well as funds for transport development, particularly in developing countries.
The event is hosted by the HCM City People’s Committee, the Cooperation for Urban Mobility in Developing World (Codatu) and the French region of Rhone-Alpes. It draws the participation of 400 delegates from 27 countries and territories.-
