Teachers and students from the Republic of Korea ’s (RoK) Kyongsangbuk province are joining local students from northern mountainous Thai Nguyen province on a voluntary work program.

The programme has been held annually since the two provinces became sister localities in 2005 and selected Rung Van village, La Bang commune, Dai Tu district, as a pilot of the Saemaul (new village) model.

During the visit from July 16-24, voluntary students and teachers plan to provide health checks-up and medicine to local people, upgrade areas in the La Bang Primary School, and hold some cultural, art and sports exchanges.
Director of the Saemaul Movement Research Institute, Shim Joon Sub, says the programme aims to boost solidarity and friendship between the two countries, particularly the two provinces.

Thanks to assistance from Kyongsangbuk province, La Bang has a medical station, a two-storey primary school and a cleaner Rung Van village. In addition, local people’s awareness on environmental protection were raised.-
