TAQ0507.002 Cuba ready for talk with US on equal terms


Havana (VNA) – Cuba’s Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque has stated that Cuba is willing to hold talks with the United States “on equal terms and without renouncing to the principles of the Cuban Revolution.”

Asked on future relations with Washington after the upcoming presidential elections in the US, Minister Perez Roque said it is too early to discuss the subject.

However, he stressed, Cuba will remain consistent with its principles.

Cubans will keep fighting for their country to be respected, and for the end of lies and attempts to isolate the island and stir up subversion, Perez Roque was cited by the Prensa Latina news agency as saying. –

TAQ0507.003 Mongolia lifts state of emergency


Hanoi (VNA) – A four-day state of emergency in Mongolia ended early July 5 after recent violent election riots left five people dead, 300 injured, and hundreds detained.

Capital Ulan Bator has returned to normal, with little sign of police and military patrols which had been deployed after declaration of the first-ever state of emergency in Mongolia.

The violence broke out on June 29 after results of parliamentary elections were announced. The results showed that t he Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party obtained the majority in the 76-seat legislative body. However, supporters of the Democratic Party and other parties staged a violent protest against alleged fraud in the elections.

Mongolia’s national election commission is expected to announce final results of the elections on July 10. –

Senior Buddhist monk passes away



Binh Dinh (VNA) – Most Venerable Thich Huyen Quang, chief monk of the Nguyen Thieu Monastery in central Binh Dinh province, passed away at 13h20 on July 5.

After a time of serious illness and being treated at the Binh Dinh Polyclinic, the senior Buddhist monk departed at the age of 90.-
