Buddhist intermediate school set up in Mekong delta province

An Giang – A Buddhist intermediate school has been set up at Vien Quang Pagoda in Chau Doc town, Mekong Delta An Giang province.

The school opened the first four-year course for 147 monks and nuns on June 22.

Besides its main facility at Vien Quang Pagoda, the school also has three branches in Thomit Pagoda in Tinh Bien district, Salon Pagoda in Tri Ton district and Kabaruc Pagoda in Thoai Son district.

Buddhist followers contributed 700 million VND to help build the school’s infrastructure.

In An Giang province, there is one monk holding Buddhist master degree; seven others are university graduates and three graduated from college.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung sets off for US visit

Hanoi – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung left Hanoi on June 22 morning for an official visit to the US from June 23-26 as a guest of President George W. Bush.

The visit aims to continue implementing Vietnam ’s open foreign policy of diversification and multilateralisation of international relations, including bilateral ties with the US .

It is also expected to strengthen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation for mutual benefits between the two nations, particularly in economics, trade, investment, education, training, science, technology and environment.

PM Dung will take the occasion to call for more contributions by overseas Vietnamese in the US to the homeland. He will also exchange views with the host on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The PM is accompanied by Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Minister and Head of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, and other officials.
